The program:

The Canine Behavior Consultant program specializes in working with dogs and their people to solve behavior problems. The canine behavior consultant program concentrates on eliminating problem dog behaviors.  I covered positive reinforcement training techniques, science-based learning theory around how dogs learn, techniques to approach issues in the home such as crate training, housebreaking, separation anxiety, identifying and desensitizing fear/aggression, adhering to ethical business practices and more!  The curriculum required me to complete several assignments in real-time with a doggo throughout the various courses. I then had to demonstrate competency in the different content areas which was evaluated by my instructors.

CPDT-KA (status pending):

I'm approved to sit for the CPDT-KA Exam!! Testing will start September 2025!

Hands-on experience:

While completing the program, I worked in tandem with several mentors to gain additional hands-on experience.  I received mentorship and guidance from four different mentors in Seattle, WA.  These mentors specialized in behavior modification, group classes for puppies and adolescent dogs, instructing group classes for reactive dogs, general obedience training, as well as a service dog training. I am grateful to my mentors for exposing me to a variety of situations, investing their time and resources to help me develop and for being a sounding board anytime I wasn't sure about next steps. In addition these internships, I volunteered at Burien Cares and PAWS Companion Animal shelters.  I am continuing to work with my mentors and volunteer programs even after my requirements for the CPDT exam have been met.

My Mission:

Since the wave of new adoptions during the work-from-home era, many of my pet sitting/dog walking clients were requesting help with house training and anxiety. I've seen an huge increase in the demand for help shaping new behaviors, which was one of the reasons I decided to get certified.  My goal is to help create routines and behaviors that enable families to live happy, healthy, safe and comfortable lives with their furry companions!  It's also a goal of mine to keep animals out of shelters and help save lives!  Adding a new pet to any household can be a big adjustment and challenging, especially for first time pet parents. You don't have to do it alone!

If you are interested in doing some work together with your dog, please reach out via this form. You'll need to include what type of training you are seeking/the behaviors that you wish to increase or eliminate, and any other notable things worth mentioning about what you are hoping to accomplish during training.
